Registrations to attend Tirorangi Marae are now closed. Live broadcasting details below.
Join Stacey Morrison (Te Arawa, Ngāi Tahu) and Mātai Smith (Rongowhakaata, Ngāi Tāmanuhiri) LIVE from the sacred Tirorangi Marae in Ohakune, as they lead a powerful celebration of Aotearoa’s most significant cultural holiday - Matariki.
Matariki mā Puanga begins at 5.45am with the traditional hautapu ceremony, honouring ancient customs and ushering in the Māori New Year.
Adding energy and insight is te reo advocate and social media star Te Aorere Pewhairangi (Ngāti Porou, Te Whānau a Ruataupare), reporting from the field.
This three-hour, multi-network broadcast weaves together stories of reflection, renewal, and joy—from Wairoa to Tāmaki Makaurau and beyond. Be moved and inspired by live performances from across the motu, including the award-winning neo-soul singer-songwriter MOHI (Ngāpuhi, Te Rarawa, Ngāi Te Rangi, Ngāti Kahungunu ki Te Wairoa), the iconic brass band from Ratana, Te Reo o Te Arepa Ratana Morehu Silver Band (RMSB), and more.
Matariki mā Puanga is a heartfelt invitation for all of Aotearoa to honour our traditions—and to create new ones, together.
